A hiring manager receives 100+ emails a day. They spend under 3 seconds deciding if your email deserves to be opened. The subject line is your entire pitch. The first sentence is your entire personality. If either one is generic, you are permanently in the trash — no matter how qualified you are. Cold emailing isn't about luck. It's a skill. Every Part Has One Job. Don't Waste Any.
Cold Email — Dissected
Subject
The ONLY thing that decides if it gets opened. Must be specific, curious, or surprising. Never: "Job Application" or "Quick Question". Aim for under 7 words. Use their company name or a specific observation about them.

One sentence. About THEM, not you. Reference something real — their recent product launch, a blog post they wrote, a problem their company is visibly solving. This single sentence signals you're not mass-spamming.

Connect your skill to their specific pain or goal. "I noticed your app doesn't have X — I've built X before and could help." This is the hardest part to write and the most powerful. It shows you've done homework.
